WHAT ARE SIGNS OF PERIODONTAL DISEASE?

There are several symptoms that will alert you. In some patients periodontal disease may develop slowly. In others, it may develop at a rapid rate. If you notice any of the following indicators, see your dentist.

  • Gums that bleed easily
  • Red, Swollen or Tender gums
  • Gums that have pulled away from your teeth
  • Persistent Bad Breath
  • Puss between teeth & Gums
  • Loose or separating teeth
  • A Change in the fit of partial Dentures
  • A change in the way your teeth fit together when you bite

Though tooth loss is one of the potential problems that can be caused by periodontal disease, it is not the only.“ Research suggests that there may be a link between periodontal disease and other health concerns such a diabetes, cardiovascular disease, stroke, bacterial pneumonia and increased risk during pregnancy.”  *ADA Periodontal Diseases: Preventing Tooth Loss;2003
